University of Georgia Intensive Summer Immersion in the Russian Language and Area Studies: A Study Away Program in Honolulu 

 

The University of Georgia is offering an exciting opportunity to college students to develop their Russian language skills and cultural competence through its study away program in Honolulu, Hawaii.

 

This unique intensive domestic language program offers a rigorous academic curriculum and a rich array of co-curricular activities.

Program Overview

The University of Georgia Immersion in the Russian Language, Culture, and Communities in the Baltics Program has shifted to a new domestic location for Summer 2022 only – Honolulu, Hawaii. This domestic program will offer a rigorous academic immersion experience that will include 20 hours of intensive Russian coursework a week, as well as daily co- curricular activities featuring guided tours in Russian around Oahu exploring globally- and locally-relevant disciplinary topics (WWII and Pearl Harbor, human consequences of imperial policies, ecology, refugee and language policies in the U.S., multilingualism, marine biology, agriculture, social and economic justice, and critical media literacy) , film viewings and clubs. In addition, the program will continue the previously planned collaboration with the Baltic Center in Riga, offering weekly virtual tours, sessions with Russian-speaking conversational partners, and a virtual course on the History of Modern Russia offered in English with discussions in Russian.
